Country chicken Pepper masala(Nattu kozhi kuzhambu)

Ingredients:

country chicken         –    750 g
small onion                –     400g
tomato                        –     11/2
ginger garlic paste      –    11/2 tbsp
curry leaves                 –     few
pepper                          –     1 tsp
salt                                –   to taste
turmeric                        –   1/4 tsp
oil                                 –   2 tbsp
FOR GRINDING:
coriander seeds                        –   11/2 tbsp
cumin seeds                             –    1 tsp
fennel seed                               –    1/2 tsp
pepper corns                             –    1 tsp
khus khus                                 –     1 tbsp
cashews                                    –     6 whole
red chillies                               –      2
cloves                                       –       2
cinnamon                                 –       1/2 inch

Method:

  • In a pan dry roast the ingredients given above for grinding until a nice aroma comes out
  • allow it to cool off  and blend it in a mixer into a coarse powder and keep it aside
  • In a pressure cooker add oil and fry small onion and curry leaves
  • After the onion gets transparent add the ginger garlic paste

  • After the raw smell goes off  add the chopped tomatoes
Stir well for a minute and add the ground masala powder
Add  salt and turmeric
Mix well and add the chicken
After few minutes add 11/2 cup of water and close the lid



Pressure cook for upto 5 whistles(or until the country chicken gets cooked because it takes longer time to get cooked than a normal chicken)
Open the cooker after the pressure goes off .
garnish with curry leaves
Serve with hot rice,idli,dosa
