Dried peas masala

Dried peas masala

Ingredients:

Dried peas              -2 cups
onion                      -1/2 cup chopped
mustard seeds         -1/2 tsp
cumin seeds            -1/2 tsp
curry leaves            -few
coriander powder    -1 tbsp
cumin powder         -1 tsp
garam masala         -1 tsp
chilli powder          -11/2 tsp
turmeric                 -little
salt                        -to taste
cilantro                  -to garnish
oil                          -1 tbsp

To fry and grind:

onion                   -2 cups sliced
tomatoes              -3 sliced
ginger garlic paste-11/2 tsp
oil                        -2 tsp

Method:
  • Soak dried peas in water over night.

  • Pressure cook it for a whistle.
  • Grind a handful of cooked dried peas into a fine paste
  • In a pan heat oil and fry sliced onions until transparent.Add the ginger garlic paste and fry until the raw flavor goes off.

  • Add in the sliced tomatoes and  fry until mushy.Add adequate salt for it .Switch off the stove and allow it to cool off

  • Grind it into a fine paste and keep it aside.
  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Temper with cumin seeds and curry leaves.

  • Add finely chopped onions and fry until transparent.

  • Add the ground onion-tomato paste and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  • Add coriander powder,cumin powder,turmeric,salt, garam masala and chili powder .

  • Cook for 2 minutes and add in the ground peas paste

  • Mix well and add the cooked peas with adequate amount of water .

  • Cover and cook well until the desired consistency  is reached

  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and onions
