Avarakkai/broadbeans Poriyal

Ingredients:

Avarakkai/broad beans  – 450 g
onion                              – 1/2 cup finely chopped
mustard seeds                -1/2 tsp
urad dhal                       -1 tsp
curry leaves                   – few
green chilies                   -5
cumin powder                 -1/2 tsp
salt                                  -to taste
chilli powder                   -1/4 tsp
turmeric                           -little
shredded coconut            -2 tbsp
oil                                    -2 tsp

Method:

  • Clean and cut avaraikkai into cubes(remove the edges and the fiber on the sides)

  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Temper with urad dhal ,green chilies and curry leaves

  • Add onion and fry until transparent.

  • Add the cut avaraikkai/broad beans  and fry for 3 minutes.

  • Put salt,turmeric,cumin powder and chili powder.mix well.

  • Pour 1/2 cup of water .cover it with a lid.cook until the avarakkai/broad beans is completely cooked.

  • Put the shredded coconut and cook for few seconds.


  • Serve as a side with Rice.
