Tea Masala & Spice Tea Recipe

This recipe is from MellowBites spice Series episode number seven, which is all about creating a homemade tea masala blend. Tea masala is a symphony of spices that can elevate your daily cup of tea. This recipe is not only delicious but also full of health benefits!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup cardamom pods
  • 2 tbsp ginger powder
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp cloves
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tbsp peppercorns
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp black tea (or your preferred tea)
  • Sugar (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Tea Masala Powder:
    • In a mixer, grind the cardamom pods, ginger powder, cinnamon, cloves, fennel seeds, and peppercorns together until you achieve a very fine powder consistency.
  2. Steep the Tea:
    • In a saucepan, combine one cup of water and one cup of milk.
    • Add ½ teaspoon of the homemade tea masala powder and 2 teaspoons of black tea (or your preferred tea) to the pot.
    • Stir well to ensure everything is well mixed.
    • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
    • Once it reaches a boil, switch off the heat and cover the saucepan.
    • Let the tea steep for 2 to 3 minutes, allowing the flavors to develop.
  3. Strain and Serve:
    • Carefully filter the tea into a teapot to remove any residue.
    • Add sugar to taste and stir until it is dissolved.
    • Pour the tea into your favorite teacup and enjoy the aromatic bliss and comforting warmth of this homemade spice tea!

  • The tea masala has various health benefits of many of the spices used in this recipe. Cardamom adds a touch of sweetness and has digestive properties.
