Hi foodies! After a long break, weโre back with another exciting food review from the vibrant city of Madurai. This time, weโre visiting Shanthi Veg Mess, a charming cloud kitchen with a cozy dine-in space at K. Pudur. Join us as we dive into their delightful offerings and experience the goodness of their famous Full Kattu Meals!

The Cozy Hut Vibe
Shanthi Veg Mess is not your typical restaurant. It has a quaint, rustic hut-like setup that gives it a unique charm. Though the dine-in area is small, seating only around 15 people, it feels incredibly inviting and intimate. The ambiance is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxed, homely meal.
When we visited, it was a cool, breezy day โ the ideal weather to indulge in a hearty lunch. The restaurant’s bright atmosphere added to the overall experience, with colorful food-themed murals on the walls. The phrase โLove at first biteโ caught our attention, and it really set the tone for the delicious meal we were about to enjoy.

An Exciting and Varied Menu
Shanthi Veg Mess offers an extensive menu filled with a variety of options. For breakfast, you can choose from a range of idlis, dosas, and uthappams. However, for lunch, the selection gets even more exciting. From mini meals and special veg meals to their signature Shanthiโs Full Kattu Meals, thereโs something for everyone.
We couldnโt resist ordering the Full Kattu Meals, which is what theyโre best known for. In addition, the menu includes roti meals, variety rice, and snacks and drinks. There’s truly something to satisfy every craving.
The Full Kattu Meal Experience
When our Full Kattu Meal arrived, we were blown away by the sheer variety on the plate. This meal included three types of vegetables โ a kootu-style dish, a bean variety, and a fry. Alongside these were payasam, vatha kuzhambu, rasam, sambar, mor kuzhambu, curd, dhal, and much more. It was a feast in every sense of the word!
Poorna began by serving herself some rice with dhal. Watching her dig into this simple, comforting combination was satisfying to say the least. They also served chapathi with the meal, which she enjoyed with a dip of yogurt โ a classic pairing that always hits the spot. If you love this combo too, you know how wholesome and delicious it is!
Comforting Combos and Andhra Pappu Podi
Next, Poorna moved on to rice with dhal and a scoop of rasam โ a dish thatโs both light and flavorful. Thereโs something so comforting about rasam and rice, isnโt there? Itโs like a warm hug on a plate.
Then came the Andhra special pappu podi. This was served over hot rice with a generous drizzle of ghee, and let me tell you, mixing paruppu podi with ghee and rice is an experience in itself! The rich, earthy flavors of the podi combined with the melted ghee created a deliciously indulgent dish that Poorna absolutely loved.
Puliyogare and Temple Prasadam Vibes
One of the standout items in the Full Kattu Meal was the puliyogare. As we transferred it to our plates, the peanuts tumbled down, adding a satisfying crunch. The aroma was simply divine, reminding us of the puliyogare you often get as prasadam at temples. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the balance of tangy and spicy flavors made this dish unforgettable.
Dessert: The Softest Gulab Jamun
To top off this incredible meal, they served a soft and luscious gulab jamun. This golden ball of sweetness was soaked in syrup and melted in our mouths with every bite. It was so drool-worthy that I couldnโt help but steal a bite from Poornaโs plate โ it was the perfect end to an already delightful meal.
Our Familyโs Choices
While I indulged in the Full Kattu Meal, my dad opted for the limited meal, which included selected items from the full kattu meal. My mom went for the mini meal, which was perfect for a light eater, featuring sambar rice, curd rice, a roti, pickle, and one veggie. Poorna, being her usual playful self, couldnโt resist trying to steal the bat-shaped papad from her grandmaโs plate โ classic grandkid mischief!

I ordered the roti meal, which came with salad, sabji, dhal, paneer gravy, and chapathis. The chapathis were super soft and paired beautifully with the rich paneer gravy. Even the simple chapathi and dhal combo was incredibly satisfying, reminding me of a comforting homemade meal.
