If you’re in Coimbatore and love biriyani, you’ve probably heard about Covai Anganan Biriyani House. This iconic chain has earned a place in the hearts of Kovai food lovers, and we decided to find out why. Our destination for the day – the Puliyakulam branch.
Right at the entrance, the day’s specials were neatly listed on a board. The restaurant was bustling with nearly 95% occupancy, which already set the tone for a popular dining spot.

We took our seats and skipped browsing through the entire menu since we came specifically for their famous Anganan Chicken Biriyani. Before the food arrived, we were served the traditional banana leaf, a touch of authenticity that always makes the South Indian dining experience special.
The Star of the Show – Anganan Chicken Biriyani
Served piping hot, this biriyani used a rice variety we couldn’t quite identify – definitely not the usual basmati or seeraga samba. The chicken was cooked to a tender perfection, but the overall flavor felt quite usual and not exceptionally unique.
Must-Try Dishes We Loved
While the biriyani didn’t blow us away, other dishes certainly did. The Fish Roast was crispy, evenly coated with spices, and packed with flavor – Bhargav’s absolute favorite. The Brain Fry, with its peppery, aromatic flavors, was my top pick. We also tried the Chicken Fry, which was flavorful but didn’t surpass the fish roast in our books.

Rasam & Rice – The Perfect Side
Rasam is a must-have for me in any non-veg meal. It aids digestion and balances the richness of the meat dishes. Here, the rasam had a mild tang that complemented the meal beautifully.
Desserts Worth the Trip
The Coconut Pudding was the highlight of the desserts – silky, wiggly, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The chocolate milkshake was also good, but the pudding stole the show.
Final Verdict
We went in for the biriyani but discovered hidden gems in the menu. If you’re visiting, don’t miss the Brain Fry, Fish Roast, and Coconut Pudding. It’s a great place for a family lunch in Coimbatore, with quick service and traditional vibes.
