Fish Thokku

 

Ingredients:

Fish                             –  1 kg
onion                           –  1 finely chopped
Tomato                        –  1 kg
salt                               – to taste
chilli powder               –  1 tbsp
coriander powder        –  1 tbsp
cumin powder             –   1 tsp
turmeric                      –    1/4 tsp
mustard seeds             –    1 tsp
fenugreek seeds          –    1/2 tsp
curry leaves                –    few
sesame oil                   –    4 tbsp
crushed ginger            –    1/2 inch
crushed garlic             –    3 cloves
 

Method:

  • In a pan heat sesame oil and temper with mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds and curry leaves
  • Add the crushed ginger and crushed garlic and fry until raw smell goes off
  • Following it add onions and fry it till it turns transparent
 
  • Add the finely chopped tomatoes and fry for a minute
 
  • Now add all the spices,salt and turmeric and mix well
  • Cook for atleast 15-20 minutes or until oil oozes out stirring occasionally
 
  •  Now slowly add the cleaned fish one by one into the gravy
  • Cover it with a lid for 10 minutes and cook it on medium or cook until the fissh is done .At the middle of cooking turn each fish to the other side

  • Serve with white rice or chapathi
