Karuvepillai kuzhambu/curry leaf curry

Ingredients:

Curry leaves/karuvepillai        -11/2 cup
small onion                              -10
garlic                                        -8
mustard seeds                          -1/4 tsp
fenugreek seeds                       -1/4 tsp
sesame oil                                -2 tbsp.
salt                                            -to taste
tamarind paste                          -21/2 tsp

For roasting and grinding:

chana dhal                                -11/2 tsp
urad dhal                                  -11/2 tsp
coriander seeds                        -2 tsp
cumin seeds                             -1 tsp
red chili                                   -1
peppercorns                             -11/2 tsp

Method:

  • In a pan heat oil and roast the ingredients for roasting and grinding until golden. Transfer it to a bowl  and allow it to cool.

  • In the same pan fry the curry leaves for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to the same bowl.

  • Now transfer all into a blender and grind into a powder. Add tamarind paste and little water to it now and  grind it into a smooth paste.

  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter .Add fenugreek seeds to it.

  • Add the chopped onions and sliced garlic and fry until transparent.

  • Add the ground paste and desired water.

  • Cook for 10 minutes or until well boiling.

  • Serve with rice and papad
