vazhakkai podimas/Plantain podimas
Ingredients:
plantain/vazhaikkai        -2
mustard seeds            -1/2 tsp
urad dhal /split black lentils  -11/2 tsp
cumin seeds             -1 tsp
red chili                -7
curry leaves             -few
hing                   -pinch
turmeric                -pinch
onion                  -1/2 cup finely chopped
shredded coconut         -3 tbsp
salt                   -to taste
oil                    -1 tbsp
cilantro                -to garnish

Method:
- In a idli steamer steam the plantain/vazhaikkai for 15 minutes.
- Peel off the skin and grate the plantain /vazhaikkai.
- In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.
- Now temper urad dhal/split black lentils, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chili, turmeric and hing.
- Add the chopped onion and fry until transparent.
- Put the grated vazhaikkai/plantain.
- Mix well and add desired salt.
- Fry for 5-7 minutes and add the shredded coconut.
- Garnish with cilantro.
- Serve as a side with Rice and sambhar/rasam/veg curries.
