Plantain stem/Vazhaithandu neer Sambar
Plantain stem/Vazhai thandu  is very rich in fiber .Neer sambhar is little thinner in consistency than regular sambar and is made with moong dhal.
Ingredients:
Plantain stem/vazhathandu  -11/2 cup chopped
moong dhal/split green gram-1/4 cup
tamarind pulp            -1 small lemon sized
sambar powder           -2 tsp
salt                     -to taste
turmeric                 -1/4 tsp
To temper:
oil                     -2 tsp
mustard seeds            -1/4 tsp
fenugreek seeds          -1/8 tsp
whole red chili           -1
green chili               -1
hing                    -pinch
curry leaves             -few
curry leaves             -few
shallots                 -6-7
tomato                  -1 small sliced
preparation time:20 min
Cooking time:25 min
Method:
- In a pot boil vazhaithandu /plantain stem cubes in water until 80% done.
- Pressure cook moong dal/split green gram with water for a whistle.
- Take tamarind juice out of the tamarind pulp.In a kadai boil the tamarind juice with turmeric and sambar powder.
- When it starts boiling well add the cooked plantain stem cubes.
- Simultaneously in a small pan heat oil and temper with the ingredients given to temper.
- Pour the cooked moong dhal into the kadai and add the tempering too.
- Cook until everything blends well.
- Vazhaithandu neer sambar is ready to serve over Rice.
