A Foodie’s Delight at Hotel Ponram Food Square, Dindigul

Introduction On our recent travel to Dindigul, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to explore its famous food scene. After much research, we chose Hotel Ponram Food Square, located conveniently on the Madurai-Salem highway. Known for its spacious seating, reasonable parking, dedicated kids’ play area, and beautiful ambiance, the restaurant was an ideal stop for our food adventure.

Our Dining Experience Visiting during the holiday season meant that the restaurant was fully crowded. However, they had ample waiting space, making our wait comfortable. As we waited, we admired the wall pictures depicting the history of biryani and the day’s special menu. The restaurant offers both non-AC and AC dining, with the latter available at an additional 10% charge.

What We Ordered Since there were no salads available for lunch, we kicked off our meal with Attukal Soup (Paya Soup). This soup was a delight, bursting with the fresh flavors of coarsely ground pepper, garlic, cumin, and curry leaves. Every sip was rich and flavorful—definitely a must-try!

For the main course, we ordered Mutton Biryani, served with mutton pieces and raita. The biryani was prepared with seeraga samba rice, and the mutton was tender, perfectly infused with the unique blend of spices. If you love biryani, this dish is highly recommended!

Next, we tried the Tawa Fish Fry, which came wrapped in banana leaves. Eager to taste it, we unwrapped it with curiosity. Unfortunately, the fish had a thick outer coating and lacked sufficient flesh. We later learned that they used basa fish, which wasn’t to our liking. This experience taught us always to ask about the type of fish before ordering.

Determined to try more, we ordered the Mutton Boti Omelette, a well-balanced dish sprinkled with pepper for extra spice. It was a delicious blend of boti pieces and seasonings, making it a unique dish worth trying.

To end our main course, we ordered the Curry Leaf Chicken—a drool-worthy dish with a perfectly balanced spice coating. It paired well with the meal or could be enjoyed on its own. The chicken was soft and cooked to perfection, making it one of the highlights of our dining experience.

Refreshing Beverages & Dessert Experience We wrapped up our meal with a Blue Lemonade Mojito, which provided a refreshing touch after the heavy meal. Feeling full but curious, we visited the bakery and ice cream parlor next door.

The ice cream parlor had a vast collection of flavors, and we were even given sample spoons to help us decide. We tasted Gulkand Ice Cream, Ginger Ice Cream, American Classic Ice Cream, and Peppermint Ice Cream—each one unique and absolutely delicious! The service at the ice cream parlor was commendable, and we’d love to revisit just for their wide range of flavors.

Final Thoughts Overall, our experience at Ponram Food Square was delightful. The ambiance, food quality, and service were all impressive, except for the wait time due to the crowd. If you ever find yourself in Dindigul, this restaurant is a must-visit for food lovers.
