Kara chutney

Kara chutney is a spicy south indian dip made with onion,tomato & red chillies served with idli/dosa.

Ingredients:
Tomato                          – 2
chanadhal/bengal gram  -1 tbsp
red chillies                      – 3
garlic                               – 3 cloves
shredded coconut           – 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves            – few
salt                                 – to taste
mustard seeds                – 1/4 tsp
oil                                   -1 tbsp


To temper:

oil                                     -1 tsp
mustard seeds                   -1/4 tsp
urad dhal/split black gram-1/2 tsp
curry leaves                      – few

preparation time:5 minute
Cooking time     :10 minute

Method:

  • In a pan heat oil  and temper with  mustard seeds and red chillies.
  • Once it splutters add chana dhal,curry leaves and garlic cloves
  • Add onion and cook for 3 minutes.
  •  Follow it with tomato and desired salt
  • once the tomato becomes mushy add the shredded coconut . 
  • After a minute switch off and allow it to cool.

  • Now blend it well into a fine paste.
  • Heat oil and temper with mustard seeds,urad dhal and curry leaves

serve with Idli/dosa/curd rice.
