Snake Gourd curry(pudalangai kootu)
Ingredients:
Snake gourd                     – 1
chana dhal/bengal gram   – 1/4 cup
red chillies                         –  4 (break into two)
mustard seeds                    – 1/2 tsp
urad dhal                            – 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds                       – 1/2 tsp
hing                   – 1/4 tsp
curry leaves                        – few
onion                                   – 1/2 cup
salt                                      –  to taste
shredded coconut                – 2 tbsp
oil                                        – 1 tsp
Method:

In pressure cooker cook 1/4 of chana dhal for 1 whistle adding 3/4 cup water

Simultaneously peel the skin of snakegourd and cut into half and deseed it

Chop into bite size pieces

After the pressure goes off open the cooker and add the chopped snake gourd and pressure cook again for 2 whistles

Simultaneously heat oil in a pan and allow  mustard seeds to splutter.then temper withurad dhal, cumin seeds,hing,red chillies,curry leavesÂ

Add onion and salt.Fry until transparent. finally add the shredded coconut.switch off the stove.

Once the pressure goes off open and add the tempering and cook for few minutes.

Serve as side dish for  Rice or chapathi
