Chicken chettinad

Chicken chettinad

Ingredients:

chicken                        – 1 kg
small onions                – 250 g
tomatoes                      – 2
curry leaves                 – few
salt                               – to taste
oil                                 – 1tbsp

For roasting and grinding:

cinnamon                      –   1 inch
cardamom                     – 2
cloves                            – 3
khus khus(poppy seeds) – 3tsp
fennel seeds                   – 1 tsp
cumin seeds                    – 1 tsp
grated coconut                – 4 tsp
ginger garlic paste          –  1 tbsp
red chillies                      – 8-10
coriander powder            – 1/2 tbsp
turmeric                           – 1/4 tsp
oil                                    – 1 tsp

Method:

  • In  a pan heat oil and roast the ingredients given in the roasting and grinding table( except ginger garlic paste and turmeric) until nice aroma comes out.

  • Allow it to cool and grind into a smooth paste adding little water,ginger grlic paste and turmeric.

  • In a kadai heat oil and fry the chopped small onions and curry leaves until it turns brown.

  • Now add the ground masala and cook until oil oozes out.

  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until it becomes mashy.

  • Now put chicken and salt and mix it well

  • Add 2 cups of water and cover it with a lid and cook it on medium until the chicken is done

  • Serve wirh Rice idli or paratha

  • Chicken chettinad? It looks delicious. Wow! I'll try to make one tomorrow for our family's lunch. I'm sure my dad will like this. But I'll probably add more turmeric powder. Is this okay?

  • You can add a little more say a pinch or so but too much turmeric doesnt add to the flavour of this dish... have a great lunsh
